The BR Mark 2 coaches are a remarkable link between the steam age railway, the birth of Inter - City in 1966, and the succesful development of that business, to the emegence of the privatised railway. Over 400 vehicles have been thoroughly modernised to serve the privatised companies. The very existence of the Mark 2s was something of a happy chance, for it was the Western Region's engineering management of the 1950s who took the initiative to design an integrally constructed carriage whcih led to the basic concept of the Mark 2. this book tells the full story behind the development of the prototype and its progression from the original Mark 2 through all the modifications up to the Mark 2Fs and the Pullman versions. It concludes with a look at conversions, Sectorisation and Privatiasation & Preservation.
