D. Wickham & Company began life in 1886 making bottling equipment for the brewing industry. But once they had moved into railway engineering after the First World War, they achieved a world-wide reputation. There is hardly a country outside Europe where the name "Wickham" is not emblazoned still on diesel railcars or inspection and gang trolleys. In later years, Wickham also made hoists for the construction industry and other contractors plant.
