Sunrise Sunset UK spends a full day at a busy and popular location, recording a typical day of passenger and freight trains.
On the East Coast Mainline, 155 miles north from London Kings Cross and 236 miles south of Edinburgh is Doncaster - a well known and popular location. With a huge railway history and adjacent works, in the summer of 2018 there was a lot of interest in the area with the brand new Class 800 EMUs on test whilst the Class 91 hauled Mk4 stock and HSTs are into their final years on the ECML. Back in government ownership as the London North Eastern Railway, the Virgin branding was being phased out for the new LNER letters.
Adding to this comes an increase in freight activity with GBRf working more trains off Doncaster's yards, the first booked Class 88 hauled freight, 67s on Thunderbird standby and it's easy to see why Doncaster was a 'hotspot' at this time!
Filmed on a sunny and warm 3rd July 2018, as well as the familiar trains there were also EMT HSTs on hire, 90036 on a Leeds service, 67015+67028 on a stock move, yellow NR 950001, newly named 66784 with 55019 and 50035, 08669 shunting stock in the works, many Class 66 hauled freights and a mixture of EMU and DMU classes working for Northern, TPE, Hull Trains, Cross Country and EMT.
