The Northwestern Pacific Railroad was promoted as the "Redwood Empire Route" and featured 300 miles of railroading through rugged, geologically active Northern California terrain. Built primarily to serve the timber and lumber industry, the NWP operated as a subsidiary of parent company Southern Pacific during the era of color photography.
