The railway between Manchester and Sheffield via Woodhead was one of the first long-distance routes in the country to be electrified and travelled through some dramatic and scenic landscapes. It also connected several important industrial locations on both sides of the Pennines, providing plenty of visual interest.

Accomplished photographer and author, Michael Rhodes, explores the full course of the electrified line during the last few years of its working life, plus several further visits after its closure to record the remnants of this once-vibrant railway.

From the derelict Sheffield Victoria station in 1977, to observations at Wath, Tinsley, Penistone, Dunford Bridge, Dinting, Guide Bridge and Reddish, to name but a few, Michael records the relentless decline from 1977.
