The initials of the Wrexham, Mold & Connah's Quay Railway gave rise to the nickname of the "Wretchedly Managed & Confoundly Queer Railway", partly due to never reaching Mold and only taking freight to the Quay.
The extension north also had an inappropriate name, but both lines were later admired when they became part of the Great Central Railway, although it was not central here. The changes are illustrated, in more senses than one.
