Industrial Railways and Locomotives of Cheshire

The traditional county of Cheshire is bounded on the north by the River Mersey, which divides it from Lancashire and by a small portion of Yorkshire; on the east by Derbyshire and south-east by Staffordshire; on the south by Shropshire; on the south west by Denbighshire and on the west by Flintshire and the Irish Sea, and is about 32 miles from north to south, and about 50 miles from east to west. 1974 Local Government reorganisation saw some of the northern and eastern boundaries adjusted. In addition, during the late 60s, some parts in the north went on to form part of the metropolitan counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Paul Teather examines in great detail the various industrial railways and their locomotives in the old county of Cheshire, ignoring the reorganisations of the 1960s and 1970s. There is an unrivalled wealth of detail in this book with histories of the various industrial rail networks, many track plans and of course, listings of all the locomotive that have worked at each site.
