LMS Locomotive Profiles

No 9 Main Line Diesel Electrics Nos 10000 & 10001

Just over three weeks before the end of the LMS, the CME, H G Ivatt, drove the first diesel locomotive built for a British railway out of the paint shop at Derby Works. The large cast-aluminium letters on the bodyside left onlookers in no doubt as to who was responsible for its construction and although the traction equipment were manufactured by the English Electric Company, the frames, body, bogies and other mechanical equipment were designed by LMS draughtsmen and built at Derby.Therefre No 10000, and the other member of the class 10001, which appeared seven months later, can rightly be described as LMS locomotives.Their story is now the subject of this Profile which looks at the origins, building and operation of the two engines.
Softcover, 80 pages, 74 b/w illustrations, 15 drawings.
