Bill Peto was renowned for his knowledge of all Great Western matters.Foremost among his reference material were copies of the official Swindon registers, and using these and other documents, he compiled a comprehensive history of virtually every GW locomotive.This included allocations, repairs, modifications, boiler & tender changes, repaints and accidents.This information together with notes on the historical background, details and modifications and locos at work form the basis of this book.It was originally intended that a long series would eventually cover every GW class, but sadly only 3 volumes were produced, all of which are now out of print.This is a nice clean copy of the first.
